An efficient greenhouse gas footprint
The New Zealand apple and pear sector has undertaken the most comprehensive greenhouse gas profile from orchard to consumer. The profile meets the UK’s PAS2050 (Oct 2008) and the ISO14040 standards of measurement.
Our methodology will be considered internationally as the apple standard for measurement. Our greenhouse gas profile for production has come back very low – in fact market distribution and consumer purchasing fruit has a higher greenhouse footprint than our production and packing programmes combined.
However as responsible producers we have identified options to reduce our greenhouse gas footprint still further.
