Smart cooperation

Our neighbouring islands in the Pacific have the opposite problem. They have many people, but not enough work for all of them. On many Pacific Islands, unemployment is as high as 90%.

Smart cooperation helps both New Zealand and these countries. Some 4,000 Polynesians come from the islands every year to work in our apple orchards. New Zealand’s Mr Apple is the largest employer of Samoans in the world!

Some of these workers come in November for thinning and stay on for harvest, remaining in New Zealand for 3 months of the year.

These workers are recruited on a village by village basis, so they remain in their familiar social structures during their stay in our country. Most of the money they earn in New Zealand gets repatriated to their homes, where it is used by family. Some of it also goes to build schools, health centres, water services and community facilities.

So when you buy 100% Pure New Zealand Apples, you’re also supporting less privileged communities.
